Patwon ki Haveli
Among the largest and most ostentatious havelis in Jaisalmer, this five-storey mansion sits proudly in a narrow lane just a stone’s throw from Jaisalmer Fort. Originally constructed in 1805 by Guman Chand Patwa as a simple one-story structure, this haveli gradually increased to its current five-story state, completing construction within the first 60 years of the 19th century. These levels represented each of his five sons, making it a unique structure in its own right.
And though it was the first haveli erected in Jaisalmer, these days it has lost a bit of its early glory. Its outer façade is constructed of yellow sandstone; inside, paintings and mirror works adorn its golden walls. Still, Patwon ki Haveli is a must-visit for any tourist interested in the history of the Golden City.
