The Jain Temples of Jaisalmer are rated as one of the best historical treasures of the desert city. Interconnected Seven Beautiful Jain Temples
Located inside the Jaisalmer Fort, seven Jain temples are engraved beautifully with intricate carvings and sculptures adorning the walls. These temples are dedicated to Rishabdev, Chandraprabhu, Parshvanath and Sambhavnath. The first temple belongs to eighth Thirthankar, Chandraprabhu and was built in 1509. The temple features magnificent sculptures in the mandapa. The Rishabdev temple is at the right of Chandraprabhu temple. Beautiful pillar sculpted with gods and apsaras is the main attraction of the temple. Parasnath temple is behind Chandraprabhu temple. It has marvelously carved entrance depicting image of Jain Thirthankara at its apex.
A small door to the south paves the way to another temple of 10th Thirthankar, Shitalnath. The idol of the temple is the center of attraction as it is made from eight precious metals. The Northern wall’s door leads to the dim chamber of Sambhavanth. The remaining two temples of Kunthunath and Shantinath were built in 1536. There is an underground library, Gyan Bhandar, which houses priceless manuscripts and ancient texts. Remain opened all day for Jain pilgrims; there is a time restriction for tourists. Shoes, food item and leather items are strictly prohibited under temples’ premises.
